Return of the marching morons

Many years ago, in a book I was reading it referred to "the marching morons",  in reference to the lesser educated members of the human race (NOT less intelligent I might add) who as a rule tend to have lots of kids, the idea being that kids are an asset to them, not going to school, but working in the fields,  workhorses in effect.  This is in contrast to the small number of expensive, self actualising liabilities educated families can afford to bring up.

Based on this, the suggestion in the book was that the " educated" would eventually be overrun by the "morons" by sheer weight of numbers.

In my naive youth I actually worried that this may be a real possibility. Of course as an enlightened adult with a good sense of history, I realised that despite the doomsayers, the world was on an unstoppable train to prosperity, as witnessed by the jaw dropping reduction in poverty over the last 100 years.  Until recently my faith in this remained intact.

As of late though. I have started to worry. Today I read that 40% of people in England want to get out of the EU, about the same as those that want to stay in. This is despite a pretty much unanimous opinion among economists that this would be disastrous. Meanwhile in the US, the rise of Donald Trump, is another example of the abandonment of reason in favor of change and some perceived downfall of the "establishment".

After all change is the only constant, so let's get on with it, let's abandon the past (by past I mean the last 20 years, nothing important happened prior to that right?) let's get on Facebook and twitter and start a grass roots movement with comments less than 20 words long!

Before you know it, our movement will get 20 second video bites in the media and be mentioned on talk shows and spread around the world like wildfire!

Yes. Pretty soon we will be in the streets...marching (refer title)
