The only religion worth following

The inherent evil in all religions is that they separate believers from non believers and human nature being what it is those two groups will inevitably persecute and murder each other.

So this is my new religion

See people for what they are. The good and the bad, love and rejoice in the good, protect yourself from the bad. Now apply this same rule to how you look at yourself. That is all.

Return of the marching morons

Many years ago, in a book I was reading it referred to "the marching morons",  in reference to the lesser educated members of the human race (NOT less intelligent I might add) who as a rule tend to have lots of kids, the idea being that kids are an asset to them, not going to school, but working in the fields,  workhorses in effect.  This is in contrast to the small number of expensive, self actualising liabilities educated families can afford to bring up.

Based on this, the suggestion in the book was that the " educated" would eventually be overrun by the "morons" by sheer weight of numbers.

In my naive youth I actually worried that this may be a real possibility. Of course as an enlightened adult with a good sense of history, I realised that despite the doomsayers, the world was on an unstoppable train to prosperity, as witnessed by the jaw dropping reduction in poverty over the last 100 years.  Until recently my faith in this remained intact.

As of late though. I have started to worry. Today I read that 40% of people in England want to get out of the EU, about the same as those that want to stay in. This is despite a pretty much unanimous opinion among economists that this would be disastrous. Meanwhile in the US, the rise of Donald Trump, is another example of the abandonment of reason in favor of change and some perceived downfall of the "establishment".

After all change is the only constant, so let's get on with it, let's abandon the past (by past I mean the last 20 years, nothing important happened prior to that right?) let's get on Facebook and twitter and start a grass roots movement with comments less than 20 words long!

Before you know it, our movement will get 20 second video bites in the media and be mentioned on talk shows and spread around the world like wildfire!

Yes. Pretty soon we will be in the streets...marching (refer title)

Its just logical Captain

Just a few words in defence of logic.

Logic isn't cool these days, it doesn't  inspire people. Its so boring and narrow minded. Logic has no heart, it doesn't care about the poor, and it won't win you any arguments, at least not with me, I don't like logic, I'd rather just make a flippant comment or better still attack your character, after all you're obviously biased, you don't understand the real world, how can you from your position, high up in your ivory tower. Looking down on us.

Well logic didn't leave you for someone else, or get drunk and beat up your mother, and logic never started a war, although it did end a few. After all. logic knows only by maximizing every individuals potential can we succeed. Throwing people on the fire of some ideology, religion, or mad man's dream makes no sense at all.

Hah! Now you're just being logical again!

Colonisation and globalization for kids

The smart country and the stupid country

The smart country invents ships and weapons. They sail to the stupid country and take over by force. The smart country gets richer and smarter from stealing basic commodities from the dumb country. They innovate and invent smart things that make them even smarter, then some of the smart people figure out they can teach the dumb people to make these new things so they can sell more than the other smart people in their country because they are cheaper to make, genius.

By watching the smart people, the dumb learn an important lesson, that they need to be smarter, so they do something they never did before they invest in their people, particularly their education, which is good for the smart country, they need cheap smart people. Then the unexpected happens. The smarter dumb people, steal the ideas of the smart country and using what they learn start making smart things and also a LOT of money selling them to the smart country. The dumb people who are now getting smarter decide they should have some of that extra money, wages go up and a middle class grows. Soon the rich smart people in the dumb country can't sell as much to the smart country anymore because it's not cheap to make things, wages have gone up, but that's okay, they now have smart people in their own country to sell to.

Time goes by until finally the rich smart people in the now not so dumb country realise they won't stay rich unless they innovate, they invent new things and sell them. The people in the smart country look at them and smile. "Welcome to the club, what took you so long"

Couple of things to ponder. Firstly without colonisation the dumb would have stayed dumb for a hell of a lot longer so don't bitch about it or expect compensation, just be happy your kids have a chance to create their own life now and because life expectancies have doubled there's a good chance you will be alive to see it. Secondly, what happened when the original dumb country got smart? They built ships and .......
